Only half a month to August... yes yes it's time to delve into our annual virtual open house. Back in 2006, I started off the first Merdeka Open House. I asked for suggestions and came up with the theme Malaysians Recipe Long Forgotten.
The following year, the theme was Muhibbah which we saw us dishing out fabulous dishes of an ethnic different from our own. 2008 saw us cooking up noodles for Mee and My Malaysia. This was also the year that we went non-halal and allowing beef.
Last year saw us sweetened up with My Sweet Malaysia featuring our local mouth watering desserts. So what's on for this year???
I would love to hear suggestions from you for this year's theme. Please feedback by 23 July 2010 so that I can announce the theme right before August.
Thank you so much!
Satu Malaysia!
ReplyDeleteMy 2yo boy keeps saying it recently after watching tv commercial.
I think this year is the most simple one.. 1 Malaysia
ReplyDeleteI think this year, the theme is 1 malaysia :)
ReplyDeletesince everyone is so hyped up with 1Malaysia concept..I echo 1 Malaysia :) come up with dishes that are distinctively Malaysian!!! What about that?
ReplyDelete1 Malaysia - the first in my mind too....and probably it can be ingredients that represent all 3 races in one dish.. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, another year already... eager to see what is the theme for this year. :)
ReplyDeleteHow about making savory dishes incorporating rice?
ReplyDeletethanks all and keep them coming. BTW if it's 1Malaysia, please do give ideas like how to go about it. Malaysian fusion?
ReplyDeleteagain.. so fast? man time really flies when you're having fun;)
ReplyDeleteCiki, wud Cumi take part??? :p
ReplyDeleteSounds like good one Kong Kay. Ask them to explain and tell a story about the dish?
i know you're asking for suggestionSSS but i give one at a time as i think of it k - Baba and Nyonya
ReplyDeleteoh one more idea! this one i call it "Provincial Food". food that is originally created at a certain place, cook it up and tell bout it's history, for e.g. teluk anson chee cheong fun, penang laksa, klang bak kut teh etc etc :D not famous one also can!
ReplyDeletehey Rachel, the second one sounds great! keep them coming!
ReplyDelete'Food from the Heart' - we cook one homish-local dish that we love which was used to be cooked by one of our loved ones - mum/grandma/dad/grandpa/aunt/uncle etc etc and of course tell the story as well :D
ReplyDelete1 Malaysia ah?
ReplyDeleteThen, may I suggest, ONE POT MEALS using all Malaysian cuisine ingredients. No cheese, no pasta, no western herbs, no red/white wine, no olive oil, no bla bla bla
Hi Babe, wow time flies ya. Since everyone was talking about 1 Malaysia, hmmm... I was thinking what about Segelas Satu Malaysia. Its all about beverages. A glass of beverage that bring all races on a table for a chat.
ReplyDeleteHow about theme on certain ingredient? For eg, chicken - different types of cooking using chicken as the main ingredient.
ReplyDeletethat is fast- one year already!
ReplyDeleteok.. I like the provincial idea too although challenging!
I guess one idea is Curry Nation-There are so many types of curries from each race in Malaysia...everyone seem to have a favourite one.
Another one could be Mamak night? I havent met any malaysians overseas who doesnt miss going to mamak!

ReplyDelete1 malaysia , can be something more creative and mixed around...rather serving chinese chicken rice, make it into beef rice, bbq char siew - bbq beef, beef rendang - pork rendang, LoL.. is this true 1malaysia taste?
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy, keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteUmmmm....Malaysia for dummies, i.e. simplified Malaysian cooking? :-P :-P
ReplyDeleteLL, after your second class, you shld be able to join in!
ReplyDelete1) Famous Malaysian Hawker Food
ReplyDelete2) My Childhood Food
3) Kampung Fair
4) Malaysian Fusion
5) Mum´s Speciality
Just some suggestions Babe :-)
Sounds good Lianne, thanks :D
ReplyDeleteMaybe something uniquely Malaysian? Don't quote me on this but I always thought things like Michael Jackson drink, roti john, sar hor fun, kaya and yee sang were uniquely Malaysian. Or something modern with a slight international flavour like beef cheek rendang, durian cream puffs, teh tarik ice cream etc.... I'm just listing down things I want to eat actually! LOL
ReplyDeleteI suggest for Malaysian Street Food by all the races. So, it can fulfill the 1-Malaysia! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's excellent Paprika
ReplyDeleteThanks Little Inbox
Well I'm sure it's still 23rd July somewhere else on this planet, so that makes my vote still count. :)
ReplyDeleteHow about Day & Night Malaysia? We are after all an all-day dining country right?
Hi Babe, I like the Malaysian Hawker Food theme .. or what about Nasi Malaysia ? You can cook chinese fried rice, chicken rice, nasi lemak, nasi pataya , nasi goreng kampung ... and etc ..
