Review: Starters at Finnegan's; Mains at twentyone

**Non-Halal**

One afternoon, I made late reservation at both Finnegan's Irish Pubs & Restaurants and twentyone kitchen+bar which are located side-by-side along Changkat Bukit Bintang via theQguides. That got Lisa scrambling to contact me thinking that I made the wrong dates since both were reserved on the same date but she missed out the time factor :p What to do, we're procastinators anyway. Capt'n Hook and I planned to have a drink at Finnegan's before proceeding to twentyone for dinner.

Finnegans

Cosmo & GD

Whilst we were both enjoying our drinks, we decided to have a small bite here, so we opted a Pork Snackers (RM22) platter has bacon, ham and sausage served with a dollop of mustard. I can't say much about the bacon and ham since well, they're bacon and ham on the saltish side, great with beer but the sausage is really terrible. They're just too floury.

Pork Snacker (RM22)

Once done, we hopped over to twentyone. Lucky the rain had drizzled out, otherwise we would be clambering over the fence or rather brick barrier in between the two places kekeke. Since we were a little stuffed with the pork platter, we just opted for their Y mains platter... yeah 'twas platters night that evening! We can picked 3 items from a selected choices in the Y section. No Xes for us. I can't recall how much but I think it's around RM50plus which we thought it was value for money for being able to try 3 main courses in one go, heh the tham jiakness (greedy) in us!

Complimentary bread

His platter consist of Bangers and Mashs (RM40 for full course) + Wild Mushroom Risotto (RM36) + Marinated Duck Breast (RM42). Bangers and Mashs are just ordinary but twentyone nailed the risotto perfectly. I urged Capt'n Hook to try the wild mushroom risotto as I've tasted before and it was still great! The grains are separated but yet creamy and not mushy nor lumpy. Fantastic! We both opted for the duck breast. I loved the tender meat which went very well with the leek!

I picked Crispy Skin Salmon (38) + Basil and Asparagus Risotto (RM36) + Marinated Duck Breast (RM42) for my platter. Was surprised that the salmon turn out to be quite sizeable which is perfectly done and the skin remained crispy throughout my course :p. The only thing is I'm not used to the slightly sweetish honeydew melon salsa. Loved the risotto that have bits of feta in it, they nailed it again here!

Bursting to the brim, we declined dessert and head home with a bubbly buzz in our stomach knowing that it was a great dinner indeed.

Review: Neroteca @ The Somerset

**Non-Halal**

Neroteca

Capt'n Hook and I loved Nerovivo but I've never posted about them here. Next in line, we loved it's sister, Neroteca which is the non-halal version of the restaurant that also have racks of wines, assorted hams and cheeses and ingredients for you to bring home. Across the restaurant, I spotted a deli. As it was quite late, I did not manage to check the place out.

Neroteca - bar

My boiboi picked Spaghetti Carbonara With Bacon, Eggs and Parmesan (RM23), something I knew he will definitely order cos he can't resist the word eggs in the line. He slurped up the spaghetti and declared they were yummy. Then he said "Hmmmm... the bacon is nice, tasted like pork"... LOL errr he never asked before what real bacon is made from but my boy is becoming a porcine lover like his daddy. There was once we were at a hawker centre and he saw chicken rice stall, he told me to order the pork rice for him... pork means char siu for him here but sadly that chicken stall doesn't sell char siu. The next stall sells claypot chicken rice, so I ask if he would like that instead... he asked "got pork one or not??" *roll eyes* Coming back to the carbonara, the sauce was not overly heavy but great to slurp up when hot.

Spaghetti Carbonara With Bacon, Eggs and Parmesan RM23

I ordered a Tagliatelle Funghi e Prosciutto, Ham and Mushroom (RM22) which came out extremely tasty. The entire plate is filled with loads of prosciutto, ham and mushroom slices! Just like the carbonara, the sauce texture is just nice, not overly creamy and I managed to struggle in almost the entire plate on my own. Capt'n Hook who was also enjoying a carbonara as well as keeping an eye on my order hehehe...

Tagliatelle Funghi e Prosciutto, Ham and Mushroom RM22

We have some juice and cocktails... BoiBoi's orange juice (RM11) was freshly squeezed type, I can't remember what I had but it has some fizzy drink mixed in (RM10) and Capt'n Hook tried a Rubino (RM20), an alcoholic cocktail. He ended the dinner with a grappa of Poli Torcolato (RM25). BoiBoi also had a vanilla gelato (RM6)... quite a large scoop which sees him struggling to finish up. Loved the creamy and light gelato. RM6 for such a large scoop, really value for money!

Vanilla Gelato RM6

I guess Neroteca is one of the best outlet in Kuala Lumpur for some delicious and authentic pasta. A 10% service charge and 5% government tax are imposed here. Our meal came out to a total of RM161, I would say it's really worth spending here.

Review: Nasi Lemak at Jalan Alor/Changkat Bukit Bintang Junction

I'm pretty sure many of the KLites working around Kuala Lumpur most popular hawker haven, Jalan Alor, would know or have tasted this nasi lemak located at the junction of Jalan Alor and Changkat Bukit Bintang (opposite KL Baptist Church). I know of a fan, Yozora Nite Sky, who must have her fix at least once a week! Haha... Opens in the morning and it's a norm to see long queue like this...

Nasi Lemak Jalan Alor-Changkat Bukit Bintang Junction

Going up close, you'll be amazed with the array of lauk (dishes) to go with your nasi lemak. Ranging sotong, fried chicken, curry chicken, chicken/beef rendang, kerang (cockles), bergedil, terung (eggplant), paru (lungs) and so on!!!

NL - dishes

Next to all the lauk, they have a separate section offering fried noodles, bee hoon and colourful kuih-muih.

NL - kuih-muih n noodles

This packet I've gotten costed RM3.50 that have beef rendang and sambal kerang. Aiyoh I'm salivating now looking back at the delicious pic hahaha... Loved their beef rendang where their meat is tender and not sinewy at all. The rice is not overly rich and they come in separate grains.

NL - beef rendang & cockles (RM3.50)

On another occassion, I had a piece of ayam goreng berempah and a piece of bergedil. This combo costed me RM4.50! Chicken tend to be pricier it seems. I'm not complaining cos this style of fried chicken is very tasty albeit oilier. The chicken meat are usually marinaded with pounded shallots, red chillies, garlic and turmeric before being deep fried. Yum yum! I think their bergedil is plain potatoes patty but I can't recall tasty any minced meat inside or not. Nice... but I could be bias cos I loved potatoes - any style!!!

Elcerdo Had Moved!

**Non-Halal Posting**

Boys and Girls, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Just a friendly announcement that Elcerdo had moved to a larger place just round the corner. It has moved to Changkat Bukit Bintang, opposite Greenman.

If you happened to browse around Elcerdo and see these little cute piggies...

Piggies

Say hi to them haha... they're gift from me to Werner for being such a sweetie in sponsoring a prize for last year's Menu for Hope.

Piggies for Werner

*AHEM* Whilst you're there... do look out for the friendly and handsome Andreas. Nope, Andreas is not edible haha well unless he allowed you to. Ooooo I'm very naughty today!

Anyway, I've been to the new place and really liked the spaciousness compared to the previous place. I would say the scrumptious appetizer spread for lunch at RM18++ is a steal!!! The various cold cuts, salads and greens are utmost delish. Do ask Werner to intro you the one that can keep you looking 18 all the time... an elixir from a part of my oink oink friend!

There are a few choices of set lunches at various prices but seriously go for suckling pig where the little piggy is imported all the way from Denmark! Meaty but the skin is ohhh so crispy! Errr you can share one piglet amongst 4-6 of you. Just get Andreas or Werner to set you up with some side dishes and greens to go with it.

Apart from that, the pork knuckle is still as crispy as ever and don't forget their simple dessert. I absolutely heart the homemade raspberry sherbet. A very refreshing dessert after all those sinful porky meat!

Review: Sticky Fingers Cafe & Restaurant

UPDATED 10 July 2007: This restaurant has been closed down. Thank goodness!

**Non-Halal Post**

Sticky Fingers Cafe & Restaurant is Located along Jalan Mesui, where the famous No Black Tie is. Jalan Mesui is over on the quieter side of Changkat Bukit Bintang happening area. There were a couple of cafe and watering holes opened in this street before but sad to say none of them could sustain except for No Black Tie whom had returned after their previous premises were taken over and converted into a bed and breakfast joint. Next to Sticky Fingers, there is one restaurant opening soon and beside this restaurant, a yoga centre is in the midst of taking shape. I hope these swanky places won't take away those hawkers in that area else no more good and cheap grubs in that area for lunch.

Anyway, I saw this discussion in Friedchillies about ribs and someone recommended this Sticky Fingers so off we went one day to wait for the bad traffic jam in the area to subside. The following are the interiors of Sticky Fingers which is very dim... bad for photography haha... so please excuse my photos.

Hubby ordered the Full Slab Pork Ribs at RM28.00. He asked for Original Sticky BBQ Sauce which the waitress claimed is their signature sauce. This pic is really bad huh cos I didn't have the time to fiddle with my phone settings so I just hentam with the lights on. The ribs came with corn on the cob (which I wished they could have stick a skewer in to ease eating but then again we were supposed to eat with our fingers right???), some salad which resembles coleslaw and a baked potato with a wee bit of sour cream on top. Looked huge and its full of meat... kinda bad news cos the meat is not tender at all especially on the thicker part of the ribs. We were expecting meat that can be teared off easily from the bones. The sauce is so-so only.

sf full rack pork ribs rm28

I asked for Half SlabLamb (RM21.00) with the same sauce just to try out this choice of meat. Looked good eh??? Meat pretty tender but could be better. Taste wise, the sauce did not manage to mask the musky smell of the lamb or most prolly they've used cheaper meat? I've no idea since I'm no expert in the meat department.

sf half rack lamb rm21

All I need to ask my not-fussy-at-all-with-food hubby was "Would you come again?". His reply was NO... so now you go figure. Worst of all I've nudged hubby to come here when we have the choice of Neroteca nearby sighhhh... very disappointed.

Ole Ole Ole

Updated 3 November 2011

This place has since closed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hahaha that's Ole Cafe for you. Now this is gonna be a quickie post, basically a pictorial of what we have at Ole Cafe. This experience is rather accidental for we stumbled inside the cafe as we were standing outside the moment the sky decided to pour. I have to say it was a rather pleasant accident, just like what Julie had experienced here too. Head on to her blog to get the details.
The bar occupied the right side of the shop when you entered. Check out those lovely cups there!!!
ole bar ole bar2
I had a cup of South African tea, can't recall the name but it's fruit based. Very lovely aroma but we loved the cup the most hahaha... We also have something latte and cappucino but sadly cappucino only came in a plain cup!
For mains we shared a chicken pita which is served warm where the diced chicken is cooked with diced bell peppers and carrots. I loved this! The chicken is so tasty. We also had a fried oriental spaghetti which tasted kinda fusion to me... oriental sauce mixed with tomato perhaps?
Dessert of the day (which changes all the time) was bread and butter pudding. Yummy in a puddle of vanilla sauce. Whoa... we even get a complimentary waffle served with ice-cream!! The smell which wafted from the kitchen whilst they were cooking it was oh so Heavenly, you know like the freshly baked goodies in the oven. How sweet of the boss (I think)... thanks CL! Psssttt the award winning barrista is kinda cute too... watch his slang!
Sorry, I have no recollection of the name of the dishes we have and I did not walked around to check out the place. Maybe next time I'll detail out everything. Anyway at the moment they have a very minute menu but they do have some pretty interesting finger food. Great place to while away reading, playing board games or surf the net using the free wifi access.
