Review: North Ocean Seafood Restaurant, Again

**Non-Halal & Rojak Language Post**

North Ocean Seafood Restaurant is another restaurant operating from a new location, Bandar Menjalara to be exact. Our previous experiences have been great when they were in Selayang, operating beside Jin Chwan, the seafood supplier, hence my brother suggested visiting here last Sunday.

The current seafood supplier named Ocean Living Seafood Centre is located inside the restaurant. Should you fancy getting some "live" seafood, head on here to pick your seafood, pay and then take a seat. I'm not sure if they're related to North Ocean cos when I asked the operator said its different but the credit card docket said otherwise... with an addition of "seafood retail" below merchant name. Oh well...

This time round we picked some Australian Roe Crabs... since there were 7 adults, they gave us 3 crabs which costed RM144.30 (RM65/kg). The manager recommended to have this type of crabs cooked sweet, spicy and sour style which my dad approved.

The standard first dish that came was the obligatory Salmon Yue Sang (RM48 for one portion) which tasted ok, nothing fantastic.

NO - salmon yue sang RM48 NO - loe hei

First up was this Stewed Pig's Trotter (RM23) that my youngest brother spotted at another table. There were lots of tender meat upon the layers of fats and the gravy had hints of Chinese spices.

NO - stewed pigs trotter RM23

Next up was this plate of homemade beancurd topped with minced pork and french beans (RM15). The spicy minced pork mixture went very well with the bland silky beancurd. Thumbs up from everyone but my poor boiboi can't eat this as it's pretty spicy. Sometimes I also don't understand how the person who take down orders are totally insensitive of his surroundings. *sigh*

NO - beancurd wid minced pork RM15

This dish was recommended to us when we asked for a vegetable dish. All we were told was this dish will have sliced lotus root and ngar koo (arrowroot in Cantonese). We were half anticipating that it will come with the yau yue si (shredded dried octopus) and macadamia nuts but instead this plain looking dish came SO plain without any decor that after staring at the plate for a good 30 seconds, we gave a puzzling look at the waitress. Plus this dish came with fresh scallops!!! Weiii wanna rip patrons off during Chinese New Year also don't do this lah! Nevermind, since I quite like scallops, we just ate them up. Plain looking... taste also nothing much to say. Costed RM40 for such a small serving. Feel so sorry since the serving like not enough to go round.

NO - lotus root, ngar koo with scallops RM40

The crabs came last... take a close look...

NO - Australian Roe Crabs

... does this dish look anything like it should?? Doesn't even have egg swirls!!! Very plain looking and you know... its just deep fried crabs with diluted tomato sauce poured all over it!!! After our first bite... really no shiok already, even my hampalang sapu (not fussy) hubby also cannot take it. Have to call the person whom took our order to have a look at the dish. Found out that he's one of the manager, Mr Wong. Just one look at it, Mr Wong also shook his head LOL!!! We don't even have to explain further. He apologised on behalf of the cook and offered a platter of fresh fruits to pacify us. Being a foodie, a simple fruit platter to replace the crabs is really an insult plus its a waste to those fresh roe crabs. After further hassling... he went to the cashier counter and returned announcing that he will waive the RM30 cleaning and cooking fee. Now this is what I call - efficient and seng mook (understanding)! Thank you Mr Wong!!! He's a nice fler actually, very clever to twist his words around, say nice stuff to defend his cook... and hoping we will return since my mom told him she have 2 unmarried sons hahaha... they do have a nice ambience for a wedding reception. Psssttt my mom was hinting to my youngest brother and the girlfriend actually hahaha *ahem*. Mr Wong can't run away now since I've taken a photo of him LOL which he disapproved *stick out tongue*

Not a pleasant dinner but we heard that they do serve nice dim sum. Might try that one day.

  2. I often see the sign for this place whenever I am around Kepong area (i.e. when I'm super lost!) Such a dissapointment for the crabs but at least the guy was nice enough to waive the RM30. The tofu looks good even though it was too spicy for yr son.
